With the current economic downturn and the climate crisis looming, it’s clear that we need innovative solutions to manage waste in the workplace. I’m Beth Meadows, a project manager, and I’m proud to have pioneered the concept of the “Human Litter Box”.
The idea came to me while watching my cat. If he can do his business right next to my desk, why can’t I? In the world of software, time is money. By optimizing our bathroom breaks, we create more time for productivity with our ones and zeros.
Tech workers are always open to new life hacks, so it wasn’t long before people embraced the idea. The average person flushes over 24 gallons of water a day, but litter boxes are low-cost, eco-friendly, and can last an entire week without needing to be changed.
Thanks to the success of the litter box concept, we’ve even started exploring other cat-inspired workplace innovations. For instance, taking naps in sunny spots by the windows has proven to be much more effective than productivity tools like laser pointers. And when space is tight, you can even share a litter box—though it takes a bit of practice to hit the target every time.
